Tan Check Ut

Tan Check Ut is a Hokkien Chinese who migrated and settled home in Thailand during the reign of King Rama 5 of Thailand. He traveled by ship from Fujian to Singapore, Penang until arrived at Phuket.  During that time there were a lot of mining in Phuket and  Chinese laborers. He later moved to the Kalai District in Phang Nga province and  married to  Khom Na Phattalung, ( a descendent of Sultan Suleiman ) then moved back to Phuket.  He had six children.

Tan Check Ut or the Chinese called  ” the Chinese black shirts “. He was professional in books, poem, and Chinese history, making money from writing poetry greetings to Chinese immigrants in Phuket. It had said that every evening , Chinese workers would relax and hang out around Suradej roundbout( today ), Ton Check Ut  would be there for storytelling and poem writing with them.

       He was filled with compassion although he did not have much wealth but he often helped people in distress.  His kindness and goodness of poverty people has just passed and passed on to his children and all later generations to realize the goodness and decency of those assets and keep passing on to the next generation. Tan Check Ut passed away in 1890.
